Sore legs from a weekend hike, exciting news, and a giveaway. Not bad for a Monday.

 North Cascades, September 2016

North Cascades, September 2016

It will officially be fall in just a few days and my hike this past weekend got me awfully excited for the coming season. Crisp air, much needed sunshine, a little preview of some fall foliage (it’s going to be so pretty this year!) and even some snow! The lingering mist, surprise rainbows and lack of cell service were just what the doctor ordered. As I mentioned on Instagram, all the images here were taken with my Fujifilm X-Pro2.

I have been a longtime fan of the X series and have shot with them for years, so when the folks at Fujifilm asked me to consider being a X-Photographer, I didn’t even need to think about it. Needless to say, I’m SO excited to join the ranks! Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing more about what we’ve been cooking up, but for now…

Let’s do a giveaway!

I’m giving away one FUJIFILM X70 camera! Like all X Series cameras, the X70 offers simple manual operation, amazing image quality, and a beautiful touch-screen display that rotates 180 degrees. It’s also perfectly compact for your day-to-day adventures. You can read more about the X70 here.

To Enter:

1.     Leave a comment letting me know what you’re most excited to photograph this fall

2.     The winner will be selected at random, contacted via email, and announced via an edit to this post

3.     All comments must be posted by Friday, September 23rd to be eligible to win

Good luck and happy fall!

Giveaway Update:

Congrats, Aaron Durand! You are the winner of the FUJIFILM X70! Please email me at veekster@icloud.com for instructions.

Thank you all who participated in the contest! Please subscribe below, so you don’t miss the next one!

I just moved from Canon to Fuji this month and I’m been loving the X-Pro 2.
Congratulations on being a X-Photographer!!! hearing this makes me really excited for you!
Feels like I’m going along your journey. 😀

Well, I’m pretty excited to shoot the change of outfits that people will be transitioning from Summer to Fall apparel.
The sun will be setting earlier than usual so that means earlier golden lights to shoot alongside the golden leaves & golden people.

Going to blue ridge parkway this coming month with the love of my life to photograph the autumn leaf colour!

Hi Victoria, I can’t wait to shoot the purple Dutch heather fields this fall. If you have a change to visit the Netherlands in the fall make sure you to visit National park de hooge Veluwe!

Can’t wait to photograph the autumn colors. And my kidos. And some portraits.

It’s pretty difficult to not want to go out and photograph everything during fall when you’re living in North Carolina and that’s what I intend to do!

Hiking is my favorite pastime, especially during the autumn season when the leaves begin making their beautiful transformation. I would love to take this camera with me while cruising down the Blue Ridge Parkway, hiking a familiar or new trail, cooling off at a waterfall, catching sunrise/sunset at an overlook or a summit, or camping for a few days.

I’m also trying to get out of my comfort zone this year by actually trying to shoot more portraits. This new season would be the perfect time to to this!

P.S. I’d honestly take this camera with me wherever I go.

This fall I want to savor the memories I’ll be sharing with my wife as she enters the final trimester of our pregnancy with a little boy due in late December. He’ll be surrounded by family at his birth and we’ve just begun to build out his nursery in our first home together that we purchased last January. Very exciting times. <3

We’re gonna need a great digital camera to shoot his early life and eventual adventures around the greater PNW. Literally cannot wait to get my f/2.8 baby portrait on.

Congrats Veeks!

Really nice article. I am looking forward to shoot additional pictures of the peak district (uk) during autumn. The mix of cold colours with the water against the warmth of the foliage is always superb… Can’t wait to see/read more for you

I’m really looking forward to shooting the Te Araroa trail that I will be hiking from January to March. It’s my first long distance hike, and I can’t wait to be shooting the beautiful southern alps for days on end.

This fall shall be unforgettable because I am visiting Canada and Portland for the first time in October. I am inspired by Canada’s beautiful landscape that’s been so well preserved over the years. I hope to capture typical fall colors with hints of snow in Canada’s rocky mountain range. There’s something so beautiful about fall foliage and snow! As for Portland, I hope for rain and lots of it. For me, it’s not Fall without a little rain. Plus it makes things a little more challenging when shooting and who doesn’t love a good challenge!

I’m looking forward to capturing the western larch trees turn golden yellow next month in the Enchantment Basin near Leavenworth, WA.

I’m excited to photograph trees revealing their naked form as they shed their leaves.

Reply Clint Burgess September 20, 2016 at 2:47 pm

Thanks for the opportunity with the give away Victoria. I’ve recently relocated from Eastern Washington to the Portland, Oregon area. I’ve only been here about three months but in that brief time I’ve seen so much that needs to be photographed. The city is vibrant and eclectic, the woods beg to be explored and the coast, well, the ocean calls like a siren song to be held, even if only for a moment, in a frame.
All of this is what I’m looking incredibly forward to photographing this fall.

Reply Michel O'Hara September 20, 2016 at 2:50 pm

Such a gorgeous blog Victoria! Just found you via the FujiX feed on Instagram. Would love the opportunity to win this camera as I’m heading to Paris this fall and it would be an amazing place to capture with a new camera. Look forward to seeing more of your beautiful work.

I would say I’m definitly looking foward to start shooting some photos in morning in the autumnal forest here in Styria, Austria. Its is amazing what a wonderful atmosphere there is when the light begins to break through the layers of fog and in combination with all the colorful leafs. Just wow!

Loving the pictures from this post. <3

Congratulations Veek 🙂 I’m so glad you’ve discovered and are now nurturing your passion in the art of photography, the thrill of travel, and in the growth of your community. It’s so fun to watch you do what you love! I love music. Obviously. There is so much raw emotion to be seen from so many different perspectives: as a musician, as an individual listener and as a collective audience. There’s something so beautiful about a group of people coming together and connecting with one another through the sound of music. There’s something so raw and real about the musician communicating through his gifts and talents. As I travel across the southern states this fall and also continue to explore my new home in Dallas, I plan to discreetly capture these fleeting moments of transparency, vulnerability and true emotion that only music can bring out of our human hearts and minds. I’ll also be sharing photos of my life on the road with bandmates and our production team. With plenty of behind-the-scenes excitement going on, my musically inclined "co-workers" will appreciate a hard copy of the memories we’re bound to create. I believe those memories are something to be shared with the rest of the world as well. The Fujifilm x70 will help me do just that. Love you, bye.
